CDPM completes study on vulnerabilities of mountainous areas

PESHAWAR: The Center for Disaster Preparedness and Management (CDPM), University of Peshawar has successfully completed the Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment of 17 mountainous valleys of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A function was held in this regard here on Tuesday in which the team of CDPM submitted the assessment report to the officials of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Director, CDPM, Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali, the Director General, PDMA, Sharif Hussain and staff of both the organizations were present on the occasion.

The study has been jointly conducted by CDPM and PDMA to analyze the situation of hazards and vulnerabilities of the mountainous areas of KP. During the assessment, Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Upper Lower Kohistan and Kolai Palas districts were examined and analyzed.

Here, it is to be mentioned that the study has been arranged under the GLOF-II project, funded by the United Nations Development Program through PDMA. On the basis of the results of assessment report, the CDPM has designed 28 structural mitigation schemes for PDMA to be implemented in the aforementioned valleys.
