Advocacy forum launched for improving justice system

PESHAWAR: A local non-government organisation, Lasoona in collaboration with Oxfam Pakistan, has established a provincial advocacy forum to play role in improving the public’s access and reach to fair, effective and speedy justice in the country.
The first meeting of the advocacy forum held here at a local hotel on Friday in which the forum’s members and staff of the Lasoona organisation participated and discussed the project ‘Improved Access to Fair, Legitimate and Effective Justice in Pakistan’ in details and strategized the planning of the program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Former Public Prosecutor Sahibzada Sikandar, Sajjad Durrani Advocate High Court, DSP Aneela Naz, Social Welfare Directorate representative Durdana, Senior Legal Advisor Ombudsperson KP Nuzhat Taskeen, Chief Executive Da Hawa Lur Khursheed Bano, Editor Sunrise Today Asif Khan Turk, Resident Editor Daily Jang Arshad Aziz Malik, Dr Noreen Naseer, Project Manager Lasoona Sayed Waqar Gilani and Advocacy Officer Lubna Haye were among the participants.
While briefing the members of the advocacy forum, the Project Manager Lasoona Sayed Waqar Gilani, highlighted the need for easy and convenient access of common man to our justice system and stated that there was a dire need for such initiatives to make aware the public of their due legal rights and responsibilities in a proper way.
The members of the forum assured their full support and cooperation to the management of the project regarding advocacy and awareness among the different segments of society and added that they appreciated the initiative of Lasoona to work on community development through legal awareness and rule of law.
