PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) on Wednesday arranged awareness sessions in different localities of the city, urging the masses to conserve water and keep their surrounding neat and clean.

The sessions, titled “Public Dialogue on Water and Sanitation” were organized in Nauthia Jadeed, Bhana Mari and Akhun Abad union councils to create awareness about the importance of water conservation and sanitation. The WSSP has been organizing this awareness campaign under the ongoing project of UNICEF on water and sanitation.

The local elders, traders and ulema and the WSSP officials including the Manager Solid Waste Gauhar Ali and others participated in the sessions. The officials listened the complaints of the locals regarding water supply, sanitation and sewerage and assured them of timely solution.

The WSSP officials in their discussion highlighted the public’s responsibilities in the cleanliness of the city and conservation of water. They urged the people to register their water connections to avoid inconvenience like disconnection and fine etc; in the future.

They said that illegal connections was a major cause of damage to supply lines and water contamination. “A single illegal connection damages the whole line and contaminates the water supplied to the entire locality,” told Gauhar Ali, Manager Solid Waste, WSSP.
