MARDAN: The office bearers of Community Midwife Workstation Association on Monday demanded of the government and the concerned authorities to immediately release their salaries and protect their jobs by granting them reasonable service scale.
Addressing an emergency meeting held at the District Headquarters Hospital, the president Shabana Siyam, vice president Dilshad Sardar, general secretary Balqis Zaman and other office bearers said that in 2008 and 2009, the government provided delivery training to more than 140 women and in 2010 provided them equipments and started Rs3,000 as their salary.
They stated that later on these workers started their duties in their respective areas and in response to this, the government increased their salary to Rs15,000, however, unfortunately for the last 10 months the government had stopped their salaries.
They further said that in this connection when they contacted the concerned officials they were told that their contracts were finished, adding that they spent more than 11 years in the field and now they have become overage and could not do other jobs, therefore, the government must release their salaries and also give them service scale and job protection.
The office bearers of midwives association warned that if the concerned authorities did not fulfill their genuine demands they would start protest demonstrations and the government would be fully responsible for any repercussions or consequences in this regard.
