PESHAWAR: The Sunrise Today has announced to organise a one month fellowship, titled ‘ST Law and Human Rights Journalism Fellowship 2021’ in Peshawar which is the first ever professional training program of its kind in the history of Pakistan, especially the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
A press release issued in this regard here on Monday, says that the aim of the program is to train the local journalists in the Constitution of Pakistan, the different laws, regulations and human rights and enable them to educate the public through their stories, features and articles in a simple and easy language which in fact, is the most right way of achieving the goal of legal awareness in the society.
The press release states that being a catalyst, the role of media is of vital importance as through journalism the legal literacy can be promoted among the public which will lead to the establishment of an educated culture in the country. However, there is lack of professionally trained journalists which is a major factor behind the unsatisfactory situation of law and human rights in Pakistan.
Therefore, in this program, at least 10 early and mid career journalists will be professionally trained by renowned lawyers, constitutional experts, law educationists and human rights experts to further enhance and enrich their knowledge, skills and capacity for guiding and educating the society through their journalistic work, adds the press release.
Applications are invited from journalists based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad to participate in the program. Interested candidates may send their CVs along with cover letters and passport size photos on sunrisetodayofficial@gmail.com before June 30, 2021. There is no age limit but early and mid career journalists will be preferred. Women, transgender, special persons and non-Muslims are highly encouraged to apply, further says the press release.
