156th birth anniversary of Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum marked

SWABI: The 156th birth anniversary of Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum, the founder of Islamia College Peshawar, has been celebrated with devotion and respect here on Sunday.

The Vice Chancellor, Islamia College University (ICU) Prof Dr Jahan Bakht laid a wreath on the grave of Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum located in his native village Topi, district Swabi in a simple but dignified ceremony.

Addressing the function, the Vice Chancellor, ICU Prof Dr Jahan Bakht said that Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum had done a great service to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by laying the foundation of a great and historic institution like Islamia College Peshawar.

He said that the Islamia College had played a unique role in the movement and establishment of Pakistan, adding that Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum was a man of God-given abilities and they would try their best to fulfill his vision of promoting education among the Pakhtuns.

The event was also addressed by Dr Dil Nawaz, President, Teaching Association, ICU and former MPA Shiraz Khan, while family members of Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum, Ijaz Khan and Bilal Khan, Registrar, ICU Dr Muhammad Abrar, Provost Syed Kamal, Administrative Officer Akbar Amin, Chief Proctor Dr Fahim, AD Sports Ali Hoti, PRO Umar Ali and Security Officer Javed Khan were among the participants.

Meanwhile, a collective prayer was offered for the reward and elevation of Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum and the participants highlighted and lauded his services for the progress and development of the people through education and social work.
