Seminar on virtual courts SOPs held at KPJA

PESHAWAR: A two-day consultative seminar on draft SOPs of virtual courts held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA), Peshawar here on Thursday.
The purpose of the seminar was to consider the draft and make recommendations to assist in the preparation of the final draft. The event was organized by the KPJA in collaboration with the UNDP Pakistan.
The Director General KPJA Zia-ud-Din Khattak, District and Sessions Judge Peshawar Younas Khan, Principal Staff Officer Peshawar High Court Muhammad Zeb Khan, Deputy Registrar Admin Peshawar High Court Abid Sarwar, District and Sessions Judge North Waziristan Asif Khan and Dean Faculty KPJA Syed Kamal were present on the occasion.
In his address, the DG KPJA welcomed all the participants and briefed them about the aims and objectives of the seminar and the establishment of the virtual courts. He added that the purpose of conducting the seminar in light of the government’s guidelines was to formulate recommendations for the correction and amendment of SOPs in consultation with all the stakeholders associated with the Department of Justice.
He said that the recent Covid-19 epidemic had affected various walks of life and similarly it had also affected access to justice, adding that in view of the current situation, the provincial government had approved an act which included hearing of cases through video link and in this context, the Peshawar High Court had directed virtual courts to hear cases in Kohat and Mardan through video link.
The DG KPJA expressed the hope that in the seminar, recommendations would be formulated after a thorough discussion on the virtual courts’ SOPs set up by the Peshawar High Court which would be helpful in making the virtual courts fully functional.
