PESHAWAR: Speakers at a daylong workshop have called upon head teachers and managers to plan fruitful activities at schools to achieve better academic results and holistic development of child’s personality should be the top priority towards producing creative, useful and law abiding citizens.
The participants regretted that most of the educational institutions had no strength and resources to develop an academically sound system to produce morally strong individuals which was badly needed for our society. The crux of the workshop was that equipping teachers with modern teaching techniques was a must for realizing national objectives and overall personality development of the learners towards building a peaceful society.
Speakers were of the view that yearly planner helped school mangers, teachers and students to work in a coordinated manner to achieve the set objectives through effective leadership as a competent and great academic leader could not only instill creative spirit in the staff and students working under his/her supervision but also motivated them to display in practical life.
The daylong workshop was organized under the auspices of AFAQ, a not-for-profit organization here on Wednesday at a local hotel. Head-teachers, principals and school mangers attended the event, titled ‘School Development Plan’.
Mian Majir Shah, the keynote speaker while sharing his views pointed out that unfortunately we didn’t consider ‘school development plan’ as an important part of the education process thus most institutions ended up giving no fruitful results in terms of academic performance, learners and teachers’ training. “Our organization has evolved Learning Management System (LMS) which would greatly help us minimize cheating and unfair practices in our existing examination system, teacher’s training and an updated curriculum program are our other departments towards a better education system,” Mr Shah elaborated.
He said that head teachers should come up with set of standards for learners, teachers, curriculum, learning environment and assessment in the light of national quality education system. He said that schools should have a comprehensive shared vision, and mission with emphasis on promoting leadership, advanced curriculum, quality teaching, character building, school climate and culture and a vigilant monitoring system.
Malak Amjad, an expert on child’s personality development said that true education meant bringing positivity in the attitude of the learners but schools flooded them only with treasures of information and no practical usage of whatever being taught. He said that school head teachers must focus on the holistic development of the learners for better tomorrow with stress on national integration, love for humanity and respect for social values.
Mubarak Badshah, another expert stated that a successful yearly planner should have details of lesson plans, student’s learning outcomes, assessment plan, and improvement program that should further divide months, weeks, days, periods and hours for achieving the set targets. He said that some school mangers and principals thought only in monetary terms and did not invest money in teachers training and improvement of curriculum which could earn them both name and fame.
