12th death anniversary of iconic film star Badar Munir observed

PESHAWAR: Artists and performers gathered, here on Sunday at Peshawar Press Club to pay glowing tributes to noted film actor Badar Munir of the yore days on his 12th death anniversary and billed him as an iconic actor of Pashto film industry because of his huge contributions.
The event was organized under the banner of All Pakistan Badar Munir Federation (APBF), Peshawar chapter to mark the 12th death anniversary of the super star of Pashto films. Senior artist, Hazrat Gul chaired the event while young film star Bilal Khan graced the occasion as the chief guest. Senior artists, fans of Badar Munir and movie-buffs attended the function.
Speakers shed light on various aspects of the Munir films fair in which memorable movies of the late film star would be showcased, late legendary actor who had performed leading part in over 600 movies in Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi, and Urdu from early 70s till late 90s.
The participants passed a few resolutions unanimously asking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture Department to issue official notification to name Cinema Road in Qissa Khwani Bazaar after Badar Munir as that was announced earlier and sponsor publication of a book written in three languages – Pashto, Urdu and English on the life and services of Badar Munir by Sharinzada Khan Badar three years ago.
Sharinzada Khan Badar, Central Chairman of APBF in his opening remarks said that Badar Munir was a multi-faceted artist owing to his inborn talent who had set trends in acting and paved way for the creative production but unfortunately, his quality work was largely ignored by his successors and Pashto cinema was declined to the point of no return.
“KP Culture Department should take concrete steps to revive Pashto film industry while using digital technology but it is stated with great regret that our concerned officials allow demolition of cinema theatres and today only two to three cinema houses screen old runs with no standard stuff,” he regretted.
Famous actor, Tariq Jamal said that Pashto cinema would take time to get revived on modern lines, adding that Badar Munir spent golden period on Pashto silver screen. Noted songwriter Naeem Muhklis, Haji Aslam Khan and Samad Shad also spoke at the event.
