YPC celebrates World Pharmacist Day

PESHAWAR: The Young Pharmacists Community (YPC) observed the World Pharmacist Day 2020 with zest and zeal and highlighted the role of pharmacist in healthcare system.
A function was held at a local hall in Peshawar here on Friday, in which the chief guest was the MPA Shagufta Malik, whereas Director General, Drug Control and Pharmacy Services (DCPS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saleem Khan, President, Pakhtunkhwa Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PkPMA) Dr Maqbool Ahmed, President, YPC Dr Waqas Ahmad, drug inspectors, pharmacists, doctors, persons from academia and officials of the health department participated.
While addressing the event, the MPA Shagufta Malik said that the purpose of celebrating the World Pharmacist Day was to highlight the role of pharmacist in healthcare system, adding that currently, around 5000 pharmacists were graduating every year in the country; however, the health sector was incapable to utilize their services for the proper treatment of the ailing community.
She further stated that despite the great importance, the profession of pharmacy was completely ignored in Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that the existence of weak laws hindered the delivery and availability of quality and affordable medicines to the public, while the number of pharmacists in government hospitals was almost nil which was contrary to the orders of the august Supreme Court and the learned Federal Ombudsman.
The DG, DCPS Saleem Khan, President, PkPMA Dr Maqbool Ahmed and President, YPC Dr Waqas Ahmad also spoke on the occasion and stressed on the need of availing and recognizing the services of pharmacists in the larger interest of the public.
