LAKKI MARWAT: The police booked 14 persons including three journalists in Serai Naurang on Friday, official sources said.
They said that the shopkeepers staged protest against the construction work on Pasban Plaza in Serai Naurang tehsil, adding that the shopkeepers after protest wanted to address a press conference but a police party headed by SHO Damsaz Khan reached the spot.
Eyewitnesses said that the police resorted to lathi-charge when the shopkeepers did not agree with the police. They stated that the police beat the shopkeepers and journalists and snatched their mikes and mobiles. “The journalists including Khalil Haider, Sharifullah and Anwar Zaman were among 14 who were booked under sections 148, 149, 152, 153, 341 and 506 of the PPC,” a police official said.
The sources added that the journalists moved a local court to secure bail before arrest. Meanwhile, president of the District Union of Journalists Lakki Marwat, Waleed Khan, said that their boycott from the police coverage would continue until the SHO, Damsaz Khan, was transferred from the district.
