RMI observes Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Peshawar:  The Breast Cancer Day was observed by Rehman Medical Institute (RMI), Peshawar on Tuesday by arranging an event in this connection.

Prof Dr Bakhtiyar Zahid, Dean, Rahman Medical College (RMC), Peshawar was the chief guest while consultants from the RMI, students and professionals from other institutes were also present on the occasion.  

While addressing the audience, Dr Abdul Wahid, Consultant Oncology shared the alarming figures, the risk factors and the various possible treatments of breast cancer. He said that for early diagnosis the self-examination of the breast, routine examination, ultrasound and mammography were the key factors.

Dr Sher Muhammad Khan also talked about the incidence and prevalence while Dr Amjad Ali talked about the surgical management and reconstruction of the breast cancer. He added that breast cancer was the most common cancer among women, in Pakistan over 100 thousand women were diagnosed with breast cancer each year and unfortunately, half of these women lose this battle within 5 years.

At the end of the function, the chief guest Professor Dr Bakhtiyar Zahid presented shields to speakers and thanked the audience for their participation and taking interest in the event.
