ECP, Pakistan Study Center hold seminar

PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Pakistan Study Center, University of Peshawar held a joint seminar on “The Role of Election Commission in Strengthening of Democracy” on Tuesday. 

Director General, Election Commission of Pakistan, Nighat Siddique, Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pir Maqbool Ahmad, Gender Coordinator, Election Commission, Haroon Khan Shinwari and Director, Pakistan Study Center, Prof Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam spoke on the occasion.

Dr Fakhar said that the ECP was a constitutional body and it was a privilege for his center to work with it. He paid rich tribute to the ECP for its role and the recently introduced reforms. Director General, ECP, Nighat Siddique thanked the Pakistan Study Center for putting voluntary services of its students at the disposal of the ECP. She stressed the need of providing facilities to women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to participate freely and independently in the electoral process.

Pir Maqbool Ahmad, Provincial Election Commissioner said that due to its exemplary performance, the ECP had been declared as one of the best commissions in the world. Haroon Khan Shinwari, Gender Coordinator ECP for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that 30 female students of Pakistan Study Centre had completed their training as Volunteers of the ECP.
