PESHAWAR: A worker of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) was spotted dumping garbage into a canal near Officers Garden on Warsak Road, raising concerns about waste management practices in the city.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred while the Irrigation Department was engaged in cleaning the canal as part of its routine maintenance. The act of disposing of waste into the canal instead of designated collection points has sparked criticism, with citizens questioning WSSP’s oversight and accountability.
It is to mention here that WSSP is responsible for waste collection, sanitation, and drainage management and has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to improving cleanliness in the city. However, incidents like these have highlighted the gaps in enforcement and supervision.
According to details, this is not the first time WSSP has come under public scrutiny. In recent years, the residents have raised concerns over irregular garbage collection, clogged drains, and waste dumping in public spaces. Despite various initiatives to modernize waste management, inconsistent monitoring and lack of accountability continued to hinder the progress.
The residents of the area expressed frustration over the lack of coordination between the departments, pointing out that while efforts were being made to clean the canal, waste management authorities appeared to be neglecting proper disposal methods. The incident has led to demand for strict action against those responsible and call for better supervision of the sanitation workers.
The citizens have urged the relevant authorities and high-ups to take immediate notice of the situation to prevent further environmental damage and loss to public exchequer.
When contacted, WSSP officials were unavailable for a comment on the matter.
