Daraz under fire: Customers allege exploitation, poor service

Staff Reporter

PESHAWAR: Daraz, a Pakistan’s largest e-commerce platform, is facing severe backlash from customers who accuse the company of exploiting and looting them. The allegations range from selling poor-quality items to withholding refund amounts.

Multiple customers have come forward with complaints, sharing similar experiences. They claim that after returning defective or unsatisfactory items, Daraz deposits the refund amount into their wallets but makes it impossible to transfer the funds to their bank accounts.

A customer, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their frustrating experience with Daraz. “I returned a defective product, and Daraz deposited the refund amount into my wallet after many days. However, when I tried to transfer the amount to my bank account, I was unable to do so. Despite numerous complaints, Daraz’s customer support has been unresponsive and unhelpful.”

The customer further alleged that Daraz’s system showed a transaction failure error when they attempted to transfer the refund amount for multiple times. “It is very clear that Daraz has no intention of returning our money. They are just trying to exploit and loot the customers.”

The allegations have sparked widespread outrage, with many customers calling for the government to shut down Daraz. “Daraz is a bogus e-commerce platform that is taking advantage of Pakistani customers,” said another customer. “The government needs to take action and protect consumers from such exploitation.”

The controversy has raised concerns about the lack of effective consumer protection laws in Pakistan. Experts say that the government needs to establish stricter regulations to hold e-commerce platforms accountable for their negative actions.

Daraz was contacted for a comment on the issue but no official gave their version to this scribe.
