ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary along with Member Planning Commission Dr Najeeb Ullah and other members of his core team arrived back to Pakistan here the other day after a successful official visit of the UK.
During his tour, he visited several universities and government offices for collaboration with Pakistani universities and institutions. He also visited the Pakistani High Commission. The meetings focused on expanding academic opportunities for Pakistani students at Cambridge and other top universities in the UK through enhanced collaboration.
While talking to different officials and Pakistani diaspora, he emphasized that universities must evolve into dynamic hubs of innovation, not just physical structures. He directed Dr Najeeb Ullah, Member S&T, Planning Commission, to replicate UK model in Pakistan, integrating industry partnerships directly into university curricula and infrastructure.
He reiterated his vision of enabling every Pakistani student who secures admission to top universities worldwide to receive financial support. Reflecting on his own journey, he shared how he was able to pursue an MBA at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, through a scholarship, which played a crucial role in shaping his career and achievements.
Furthermore, the Minister informed that he had engaged with the heads of all major commercial banks in Pakistan, urging them to develop scholarship programs under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in expanding higher education opportunities for talented Pakistani students.
He further stated that his visit was a good example of the government’s commitment to investing in education and ensuring that Pakistani students have access to world-class academic institutions, thereby contributing to the nation’s intellectual and economic growth.
