Uncontrolled social media activists
Editorial
The recent trend of social media activists interviewing accused persons in police custody in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly Peshawar, has raised serious concerns about the violation of laws and the potential disruption of case proceedings. This unauthorized access not only compromises the integrity of the investigation but also puts the accused’s safety at great risk. Moreover, it creates an opportunity for misinformation and manipulation, which can further complicate the case.
The police authorities must take immediate action to prevent such practice and ensure that the legal process is fully respected. This includes enforcing strict access controls and maintaining the confidentiality of the investigations. The high-ups should also establish clear guidelines for interaction with media and social media activists to prevent any potential disruptions.
To address this pressing issue, it is highly essential for KP government to establish clear guidelines and regulations for police stations and offices that no social media activist will be granted access to do such illegal and unethical practice for gaining views on social media at the price of the dignity of the accused persons.
Ultimately, the safety and dignity of the accused persons must be protected, and the integrity of the legal process must be maintained. The police high-ups and relevant authorities must take immediate action to prevent such unauthorized access and ensure that all investigations are conducted fairly and transparently in the province.
