CECOS University occupies nearby roads, footpaths for vehicles

PESHAWAR: CECOS University has occupied the nearby public roads and footpaths for its buses, cars, and other vehicles, causing inconvenience and disturbance for public, while the residents of Phase 6, Hayatabad have expressed their big concerns over blocking and narrowing the adjacent roads and footpaths.
According to the locals, this encroachment has restricted the pedestrian movement, forcing the residents to walk on roads and reduced the road width causing traffic congestion in the area.
“We are fed up with the university’s expansion at our expense,” said a local resident, requesting anonymity. “Our children can’t walk safely to school, and emergency vehicles struggle to pass through.” The neighbors claimed repeated complaints to authorities but they failed to take proper action.
They urged the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to take immediate action against the university’s encroachment. “CECOS University must respect the law and public spaces,” they stated.
The local residents demanded immediate restoration of public roads and footpaths, and strict action against the university administration, saying that it was the right time for PDA to take notice of this issue in larger public interest, as it was its prime responsibility.
When asked for a comment on the issue, the owner of CECOS University Sohaib Tanveer said that parking vehicles on adjacent roads to the buildings was a common practice all over the world.
