The icon of clinico-academic excellence

The academic excellence is a pursuit that lies at the core of education, reflecting the highest standards of achievement and performance in clinical, academics, and research horizons. No doubt, Prof Liaqat Ali, an internationally renowned urologist from the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD), Hayatabad, fulfills all the parameters of clinico-academic excellence.
Well, during the last 9 months, he successfully organized 14 conferences and workshops for undergraduate medical students, post graduate residents, and health care providers. The details of all these clinical and academic events are being shared here.
The 3rd Annual Female Functional and Reconstructive Urology Workshop was held in June 2024. The event covered the miseries, causes, and the recent management of urinary incontinence in women which is considered as a social calamity in our society. He along with his team performed female urinary incontinence. The workshop was attended by 220 participants across the country. The Provincial Health Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Qasim Ali Shah graced the occasion as Chief Guest and appreciated the efforts of Prof Liaqat Ali and his team. Maj General (R) Amjad Nadeem, Chairman BoG, MTI-HMC, and Dr Shahzad Akbar, MD, MTI-HMC, also graced the occasion.
Similarly, Nephron Sparing Surgery (NSS) Workshop was also arranged. Nephron sparing surgery in renal tumor means that cancer is removed and the remaining kidney is saved. The workshop that was held in the 1st week of July at PGMI, Hayatabad. Prof Liaqat Ali shared operative tips and tricks of nephron sparing surgery with budding urologist. Here, it is worth to mention that he holds the record of highest series of NSS in Pakistan.
A six-week research and leadership module was also organized. In collaboration with Health RAB and Ilm Foundation, Karachi, Prof Liaqat Ali successfully conducted the six weeks course of research and leadership module from July 15 to August 28. More than 270 participants attended the module. The basic and applied research was taught from scratch to all the participants. The best synopsis was awarded Rs 200,000 by Health RAB.
Apart from this, three consecutive pre-conference workshops on medical education and research for KMC research conference were arranged. Thereafter, he participated in Aga Khan University International Research Conference, while he presented eight papers in the conference of International Urology Association in Bali, Indonesia in September 2024.
Here, it is to be mentioned that he was the only invited international faculty from Pakistan in PERCON September 2024 for new research avenues in renal stones.
If talk about his clinical excellence, it would be pertinent to mention that during the last 9 months Prof Liaqat Ali managed to operate 1,140 complex urological surgeries, attended 13,000 patients in OPD, and managed 1,050 admitted patients at the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD).
Last but not the least, if throw light on his research excellence here, in addition to publication of the 3rd volume of Pakistan Journal of Urology, his two chapters in international books on urology have also been published in 2024, while he excelled by having four publications in 2024 reaching the highest tele of 78 publications in his record.
