Ghost teachers at govt varsities
Editorial
In a shocking betrayal of public trust, a significant number of teachers from public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have abandoned their duties to pursue lucrative opportunities in the private and development sectors. While they continue to draw salaries and benefits from government varsities, they are simultaneously earning hefty paychecks from private organizations and development projects.
This egregious misuse of their positions has severe consequences for students, who are left to suffer from the absence of qualified educators. The exodus of teachers has created a void in the academic landscape, undermining the quality of education and research, and compromising the future of young minds.
The KP government must take immediate notice of this situation and take decisive action against these ‘ghost teachers’. Teachers who have lost interest in their government jobs should be compelled to resign, paving the way for unemployed and qualified individuals to fill the vacancies. The government must also implement measures to prevent such conflict of interest and ensure accountability among the educators.
As the relevant stakeholders demand accountability in this regard, so, it is high time for the Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to restore the sanctity of public sector education and ensure that teachers are held to the highest standards of integrity and dedication, because, the future of our youth completely depends on it.
