CEO post at KPBOIT lies vacant for 2-year

PESHAWAR: The position of chief executive officer (CEO) at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade (KPBOIT) has been vacant since October 2022, adversely affecting the office business and functionality, and hindering its prime objective of attracting and facilitating national and international investment in the province.
Sources within the organization revealed that the absence of a CEO had led to a significant decline in attracting foreign investment and investors’ confidence, adding that the vacuum had also resulted in power struggle among the lower officials, further exacerbating the situation.
The sources maintained that currently, the vice chairman of KPBOIT and head of business facilitation were running the affairs of the organization, however, it was not a proper solution to the problem, saying that the delay in appointing a CEO had raised several questions about the government’s commitment to promoting economic growth in the province.
In this regard, the Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Abdul Karim Khan, secretary industries Aamer Afaq, and vice chairman KPBOIT Said Mahmood were contacted for taking their comments on the issue, however, none of them responded to this scribe.
