PESHAWAR: Dr Sahibzada Ali Mahmud, Managing Director, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) resigned from this post, sources said.

A senior official of the Department of Science & Technology and Information Technology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed this big development here on Saturday, and told this scribe that yes, he had resigned officially.

When asked about the reason, Dr Ali Mahmud stated that he was planning for the last few months to avail some vacations by spending time with family and then start his own private independent business, so he decided this and quit the position to avoid conflict of interest.

It is to be mentioned here that the head of investigation cell of the Sunrise Today has submitted an RTI application to KPITB and asked a number of questions about his appointment, performance, and targets set for him to achieve on annual basis, however, no positive response has been received yet.

It is also to be noted that the Auditor General of Pakistan’s audit report, released in 2022, disclosed that he was appointed with a monthly salary worth Rs 1,015,000 from 13th October, 2020. He was not eligible, because he had a PhD degree in electrical engineering, and BSc in electrical engineering, while the required qualification for the mentioned post was 16-year education, including 4-year university education throughout in 1st division in information technology, computer science, or any relevant subject.

However, as per the rules of the Higher Education Commission Pakistan, a qualification in electrical engineering is not equal to a degree in information technology or computer science.

Apart from this, the audit report also mentioned that he failed to achieve the key performance indicators set for him, and his employment contract had to be terminated as per the agreement but an unnecessary favor was given by the BoD of KPITB.
